Prolouge

Two brothers stood off, moonlight glinting off their fur.
One was a silver tom, the other a gray blue tom.
The moonlight also glistened on sharpened claws.
"RIVERFLOW!" the older tom roared.
"I'm sorry, brother." Riverflow muttered.
Riverflow raised a paw, and blood flew through the air.
The other tom stared at him, shocked, as he thudded to the ground.
Riverflow smiled, wising Silverstar was truly dead.
The leader stirred, raising his head.
"Shall we continue?"
Riverflow smiled, and nodded.
Slashing at each other, the brothers continued to fight.
They were not enimes, but merely rivals.

Chapter 1

Silverstar strectched his stiff muscles, as he fought his brother last night.
He slipped through the den, leaving his deputy and mate, Tigerface, still asleep.
A soft meow alerted him to Riverflow.
"Good fight, brother. I thought you'd gone soft."
Silverstar smiled, "Just wait until tonight."
"That sounds promising."
Silverstar nodded, "It is."
"You gonna wake Tigerface up?"
"Nah. She's tired."
"She doesn't approve of the fights."
"I know."
"So...."
"What?"
"About the kits."
"I don't know...."
"Yes you do."
"They are due any day now."
"They might be dead."
"Don't talk like that!"
"Well, it's the truth."
Silverstar scoffed. "You are certaintly getting that fight."
"Good. I wanted it, anyway."
As night fell, the two faced off again.
This time, Silverstar did not wait for Riverflow's moves.
Tigerface watched, from the nursery.
She had moved.
She hoped her kits had their father's fierceness.
That's why she had chose him.
Riverflow was good, too.
But not as good as HER mate.

Chapter 2

Silverstar was alerted by a yowl from the nursery.
He shot up, even as Riverflow burst in.
Before Riverflow could say anything, Silverstar ran out.
"Tigerface!"
As he got there, he saw three kits.
They were all three female.
One looked like both of them.
One looked like Tigerface.
The last one looked like....
"RIVERFLOW!"
Silverstar raced to his brother, and instantly attacked.
In a few moments, Silverstar grew so angry that he killed Riverflow.
Tigerface said nothing.

Chapter 3

Riverkit rolled around, her gray blue pelt shining in the sunshine.
Sometimes she wondered why she was not colored like her siblings.
Tigerface had not told her, afraid she would get too mad.
After all, it was better if she didn't know.....at all.
Silverstar ignored all of them.
"Hi, half-sibling." Starkit taunted.
"Mama!"
"Silverkit, you promised!"
"I'm sorry, mom"
"Promised what?" This was Riverkit.
"HALF SIBLING!"
There was a thump.
Riverkit struggled to her paws.
Her green eyes flashed.
"Mama?"
"Yes?"
"What did Riverflow look like?"
This took Tigerface by surprise.
"Just like you."
"So.... That's why I'm called half sibling."
Tigerface nodded, slowly.
"Yes."
"Mama?"
"Yes?"
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"W-what?"
"Oh, so those two know who my father was and..."
There was a pause, where Riverkit washed a paw. She continued between licks.
"...I...didn't. I...hate...you. I...hate...this...family."
"Riverkit..."
"Shut...up."
Now there was a gothic kitten.

Chapter 4


Riverkit stood up, gray blue fur bristling.
"I'm out of here." She muttered, walking out.
"NO!" Tigerface yowled, but it was too late.
Riverkit's siblings watched the tiny kit, laughing.
They were silenced by a glare from Tigerface.
"Starkit, go tell Silverkit. Now." She growled.
The kit raced away, to the den.
She burst in the den.
"SILVER-DAD!"
Silverstar turned around.
His fur was ragged, and his eyes were haunted.
They focused on Starkit. "What?"
"Riverkit....She's gone!"
Silverstar smiled. "Good riddance."
"Wha?"
"Go tell Riverflow. Oh, wait, he's DEAD."
Silverkit's father's tone made her fur bristle.
"You will go out there, and you WILL HELP MY SISTER!" She snarled.
Silverstar pulled back, eyes wide.
"No."
"Yes, you WILL!" Starkit hissed.
She jumped at him.
With a quick movement, Silverstar slapped her.
She hit the cave side.
Silverstar stiffened.
Starkit moved.
She raised her head. "Find her, or DIE."
Silverstar nodded.
He raced out.
Starkit's vision faded before going back.
She woke up next to Tigerface.
With a low groan, she asked, "Riverkit?"
Tigerface shook her head.
"You mean she's....dead?"
"No. They just haven't found her."
"Glad she's not dead."
"Yeah. So am I."
They sat like that for a while, daughter and mother.
